ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I come from an "audio" family. Perfect pitch is in my background, as is a cellist, a violinist, a pianist and a choral conductor. I'm the black sheep of my family because I chose to go "visual".
My musical background appears in my art. There's the rhythm, the chord structure, tonality and sense of movement, all of which - in my family - are heard, but in my work, they are seen and experienced.
BIOGRAPHY
I have loved art since I was in grade school when, one Sunday afternoon, my mother took me to her string quartet practice. Practice was held at the home of a couple on the art faculty of Washington University. While her husband played the viola with the quartet, the wife gave me painting lessons. That may not have been her idea of a relaxing Sunday afternoon, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I discovered, then, that making art was something I really enjoyed.
I have been involved with art ever since. I graduated from SMU with a degree in art and fashion design. After rearing a family, I returned to college for a teaching certification and taught art in the Plano program. I continue to teach students how to look at and how to love art as I tour them in my work as a docent for the Dallas Museum of Art.
