Clara Rushing was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. She attended the University of Texas at the Permian Basin and Louisiana Tech University. She studied at seminars conducted by nationally known artists in all mediums. Clara's lifelong passion is her painting. Reflected in her work are her homes, travels and studies throughout North America and Europe. Her paintings have received many honors and awards such as first place and "Best of Show" in watercolors, oils, graphites and pastels. Her work has been accepted in numerous regional and national competitions including: The Artist Magazine Competition, Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Show, Llano Estacado Juried Show, Permian Basin Art Institute Show, Sand Hills Art Festival, Odessa Art Association Fall Show, Texas Neighbors Art Competition, Southwestern Watercolor Juried Show, and Western Federation Juried Show. Clara was selected as one of "The Seven Texans" where her work was showcased in an event at the Neiman Marcus "In Circle" party. Clara was commissioned by Cooper Clinic to paint the Cooper Clinic mansion. This painting now hangs in the mansion at Cooper Clinic on Preston Road and is featured on their stationery. Park Cities Baptist church commissioned a painting to honor the directors of their Little Folks Day School. Clara's watercolor painted titled "Sharing" now hangs in their new Community Life Center. Clara painted a large watercolor of the Hill Country for Buckner International, which is displayed at the convention center in Marble Falls, Texas.
